Manage Your Debris Removal Independently: Pacific Palisades Wildfire Debris Clean-Up

If you choose to opt out of the government-run debris removal program in the Pacific Palisades, you are responsible for independently managing the clean-up of your property. This page provides select guidance for individuals and property owners who wish to hire their own licensed contractors, rather than opting for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to manage Phase 2 of the Pacific Palisades clean-up debris efforts.

Remember to follow Los Angeles County’s wildfire debris removal protocols, outlined in the Opt-Out agreement, to ensure your clean-up meets health and safety standards. When handling your own clean-up, it is important to hire licensed contractors who follow these guidelines:

  • Compliance with Local Program Standards: Contractors must adhere to the protocols and requirements set forth by Los Angeles County for wildfire debris management; and,

  • Safe Debris Removal Practices: Contractors must wet down ash and debris before removal to control dust to prevent contamination and exposure during transportation.

     

Certified Contractors

Below is a partial list of certified contractors, representing firms capable of handling hazardous materials such as asbestos and other hazardous waste removal. Homeowners and individuals may consult with these specialists, in addition to others they have identified, provided that these contractors are currently certified by the Contractors State License Board to perform asbestos and hazardous substance removal work.

Asbestos and Hazardous Substance Removal Certified Contractors

Hazardous waste must be identified, segregated, and disposed of at a certified Household Hazardous Waste or Recycling Facility. Property owners will not be allowed to build on their property until cleanup and removal of all hazardous waste has been completed in accordance with applicable standards. Asbestos and asbestos containing material must be removed by a certified Contractor.
